Along with the laptops it also allows  selection of its mobile broadband packages. For this they ask you to sign up for a two-year mobile broadband connection.

The laptops are for its customers who take out many of its mobile broadband packages. They provide you with  Dell laptop with a 24-month mobile broadband package from 3 at £29.36 a month.

This mobile broadband package is available through  Orange also. The deals for free laptops are similar to those of the Carphone Warehouse, which launched a combination of free laptops and mobile broadband packages in September 2007.

The present scenario is Tesco deals include a free Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop with a 24-month mobile broadband package at £29.36 a month. It is a very good offer and is the best of all.

Well I don't think it would be so. You need not give any any deposit amount for the laptop. They will give it to you as a par of the package they are providing since it is a long term contract. And the name itself says it is free.
